Drawing on voices from all backgrounds using pitched and unpitched vocal sounds this evening’s performance explores the use of voice in improvisation.

For the first Oxford Improvisers concert of the new season at the Old Fire Station, Oxford Improvisers Orchestra will be joined by the Argentinian guitarist Fernando Perales. A founder member of the experimental group 'Reynols', this will be the first concert of his forthcoming European tour.

On Growth and Form - Study I
Taking its name from the D'arcy Thompson's seminal treatise on morphology, this piece seeks to apply the special and apt musical circumstances offered by an ensemble of improvising musicians to the evocation of that most wondrous of spectacles - organic growth.

Internationally renowned improvisers Klaus Janek on doublebass and electronics; Scott R. Looney on electronics and prepared piano will be joined by UK saxophonist Tony Bevan and OI locals whilst on the UK leg of their European Tour. These musicians and their different experiences together and separately create a wealth of sonic textural landscapes in their interactions, with an emphasis on logic and contrasting concepts guiding the overall shape of the work.
